The line extended down towards the bridge, the Perth hip hop community had come out in force. Hoodies, baggy jeans and sneakers were the order on this night. Entering Metro City you could hear Michael Jackson tributes flying from the stage, Billy Jean kept the early birds warm on the floor. Perth was the only city on the tour that hadn’t sold out, but it felt like it was at capacity by night’s end.

Melbourne emcee, Pez kicked off the evening’s festivities, with help from buddies 360 and DJ Matik dropping tunes from A Mind Of My Own it was the perfect start to a night of fat beats and urban rhymes. The Festival Song was the highlight of this rather short set.

Bliss N Eso are in a league of their own in the exclusive Aussie Hip Hop world; 3 Sydney boys who love putting on a great show, and on the last date of their Australian tour, they didn’t disappoint. Bounding onstage as a large screen counted down to show time, the party vibe set in and Woodstock 2008 was made the entire crowd go ape-shit. The boys clearly appreciated the masses turning out to show support.

Latest release, Flying Colours got a good working over, but it was the radio friendly hits that worked the best, Up Jumped The Boogie got an early birth and the party vibe was hard not to get caught up in, and shouting out the “La, La, La’s” it was sometimes hard to hear Bliss N Eso over the crowd.

The pace was brought down a little for Eye Of The Storm, with the delicate Angus And Julia Stone sample, the homies and homegirls in the crowd took the opportunity to cuddle up a little, before Pez was reintroduced to join in on a track before the crowd got a final “thank you” and Pez was gone, but not before the old Peace, Love and Unity chant got a working over.

The greatest hits just kept on coming, Bullet And A Target was a little lost in the mix, with the crowd taking over duties for the chorus and This Is For You didn’t get a play, which disappointed a few punters.

The boys took a few minutes out to get their dance on for Michael Jackson, with a little bit of breaking and high-fiving for the front row as the backing tune rose to a Killing in The Name Of crescendo. Its funny how you think a crowd cant get anymore pumped, then a track like that gets played and it really goes up a notch.

After a quick break before the encore, the crowd got what they wanted when the boys reappeared and busted out Sea Is Rising to manic applause.

Never has there been a hip hop gig with so much love. Perth loves Aussie Hip Hop, Perth loves Bliss N Eso, and from the dynamite show and passion put into their performance, it’s clear that Bliss N Eso love Perth right back.
