Ladytron, Mission Control @The Hi Fi, Brisbane(07/06/2009)

CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS FROM THE SHOW RIGHT HERE ON FL.

The 10 degree weather, the plethora of skinny jeans, neck scarfs and ironic haircuts, the inane chatter about all things unimportant. This was Brisbane’s social elite, coming out to see UK electropop outfit, Ladytron. Touring Australia on the back of releasing their most recent album, Velocifero, Ladytron has amassed a large cult following throughout the world over the years, and Brisbane is no exception.

The night was kicked off by indie rockers, Mission Control , who delivered a slew of catchy indie rock numbers to the steadly filling Hi Fi. With upbeat pop hooks, driving melodies and simple execution, Mission Control are definately one to keep an eye on.

Ladytron was then greeted to the stage with warm applause, and kicked off the show with the tracks Ghosts and Runaway, both from their most recent album, Velocifero. Ghosts was well received by the audience, however Runaway invoked a less adulatory reaction. As the set progressed, both band and crowd seemed to loosen up, and the performance was much warmer. Ladytron played old favorites such as International Dateline and Ladybird, much to the delight of older fans who, knowing every word, happily helped sing along. Sooner than expected, Ladytron gave us their last song, the massive electro hit Seventeen. The intricate build-up and duel vocals during this song were a real testiment to Ladytron’s abilty to create whatever atmosphere they desire. This effect was also applied to their one and only encore, Destroy Everything You Touch, off their album, Witching Hour.

All in all, Ladytron’s performance was flawless, however somewhat distant. But then again, this is their persona, and one must understand that this is what Ladytron is. Effortlessly brilliant with a certain un-achieveable cool. One thing is for sure, Ladytron is not a boring band by any measure, they remain a driving force in electronica, and will continue to be so far into the future.
