Gangbusters @ Bar 32,Canberra, (04/06/09)
Fri 5th Jun, 2009 in Gig Reviews
Last Thursday night saw people meow-meow-meow their way to the launch of CAT CAT’S EP, Dig Mountains. It was a pleasant shot of excitement to the head. Just double that shot because it was also the first Thursday of the month which could only mean one thing, yipeeee – Gangbusters!
Inside Bar 32 was bliss: behind the doors were welcoming faces, a warmer climate, cheap booze as well as the music to be had. Plus an abundance of hipster kids – who are everywhere these days – cause they’re hip?
Starting a tad late was The Fighting League (who were support of the night). This band of men are no strangers to the crowd. Natural performers – being very comfortable in their skin. Maybe a little too comfortable? Shirts were ripped off, nipples of the male kind were out and about, the poor microphone got a taste of abuse! It was hard hitting stuff the hipster kids clearly loved.
CAT CAT, was not however ‘rip-yer-shirt’ off kind of music, but quite a treat in it’s own way. Spacey, ambient, transcending sound is a way to put it. Think of a band from the past who found a massive time machine and went back to the future. Sounds old, feels new, kind of music. A short set, sadly but great.
The hipster kids were everywhere that night. Hopefully they all got hold of an EP – as it’s pretty damn great.
These hipster kids see Gangbusters like the regular grandmas see a Sunday session of bingo. You get there early! You make use of the facility. It’s competitive – yet socially enlighting!
So make sure you’re next at the next Gangbusters in July, right? Right!
Thanks to Birds Love Fighting for keeping Gangbusters on it’s toes!.
