CHECK OUT THE MAD PICS!

If you’re from Canberra, you’ll more than likely recognise at least one of the members of Young and Restless. Whether it be from shopping, socialising, or schooling, there’s a good chance your paths may have crossed, which makes every Y+R homecoming a good one, because so many people are willing to come out and go apeshit for the locals done good.

While it was the first time in a while that a gig of this calibre had not caused a lengthy line outside of Transit Bar, it was by no means empty. By 10:30, when the band took to the stage, the crowd at the front were sardine-like, and the atmosphere was well beyond electric.

Bursting straight into songs from their debut album, now aged like a fine wine or cheese, as well as what sounded like some new material, Young and Restless proceeded to melt faces.

Lead singer Karina Utomo repeatedly threw herself around the stage, and quite often into the crowd, indulging in crowdsurfing not once, but twice during their set.

Bassist Ross Paxman was also beyond energetic, with his bass coming close to taking out anyone in the front row daring enough to stand in front of the now very raucous moshpit. In fact, during the performance, it wasn’t strange to see members of the crowd joining the band on stage, if for no reason than to just jump back into the crowd and attempt (although often fail) a crowdsurf of their own.

After no more than half an hour it was all over. Short set, but as punchy as ever, and certainly worth the admission. Oh, it was free, did that not get mentioned?
