Wow! Talk about gig of the week, gig of the month or even gig of the year for that matter.

The Kaiser Chiefs played The Thebarton Theatre to much anticipation after missing Adelaide out on the last couple of tours but they didn’t disappoint. A solid crowd was on hand to witness what will go down as one of the great, great, great shows for 2009.

Razorlight opened proceedings and I can’t say I’ve really ever been a fan and tonight’s support act did little to change my opinion of them. Their set was primarily greatest hits with America and Rip It Up standing out. I’d say the crowd response to Razorlight was mixed by on the flip side it is great that another band from the V-Festival made it to town.

The atmosphere was fever pitch and there was no hiding the excitement especially when the kick off time of half past nine was fast looming. The crowd went mental when Ricky, Whitey, Simon, Peanut and Nick hit the stage kicking things off with Spanish Metal. If any young band is looking for tips on how to engage with their audience and getting them going nuts this is the show to be taking notes as front man Ricky Wilson is the front man of all front men continually egging the crowd on to sing louder and even louder.

Everyday I Love You Less and Less and Everything Is Average Nowadays followed but there was a massive sign of appreciation when Ruby featured early in the set. There was a brief pause when Ricky stopped to catch his breathe and say, “This is usually a sunny part of the world right? Sorry, but everywhere we go it starts raining and I think there will be a torrential down pour any time soon.” Good Days Bad Days seemed like an ironic fit with what he just said.

The hits were on tap and kept flowing with Modern Way and Never Miss A Beat but the highlight was I Predict A Riot. The cheering, the dancing and Ricky Wilson climbing the speaker stacks and the balcony then the run through the crowd – just great, great, great! The main set finished off with The Angry Mob before sneaking off for a great break.

The crowd cheered for more and that’s what they got starting off with a tongue in cheek – œAdelaide Lady In Red’ before launching in to Can’t Say What I Mean. Unfortunately, all good things must come to end and Oh My God saw the night out on what would have to be my favourite gig’s in quite some time.
