Dance and rock were the two music genres that dominated WOW – a live music & DJ night held every Saturday at The Edinburgh Castle. DJ’s included Touche and Jax & Soda to get the crowds both inside and outside pumping.

Three up and coming local bands performed live sets each with varied success. First to take to the stage where Young Hearts Fail who are a talented band, but you would not know that from their performance on Saturday night. Unfortunately for them, they were faced with numerous sound problems. Lead vocalist Xixi Cao could barely be heard over the top of the guitars and drums. As hard as she may have tried to make her voice project to the audience she eventually admitted defeat. All that could be seen was her lips moving with the occasional lyric registering.

Kytes Of Omar are another band trying to break their way onto the national music scene and if there live act is anything to go by then this should not take long at all. The band has a great group dynamic whilst on the stage, which rubs off on you as the audience. Their songs have a slight tendency to all sound the same, but they are so entertaining to watch that you really don’t mind. Due to the lack of material the bands set was over in a flash. Hopefully once they create and record more songs, this band will be unstoppable.

A South Australian export that we can really be proud of is Dangerous! . With their vigour, contagious enthusiasm and incredible good looks this band has everything you could want in a live act. Lead singer Tommy got up in the audiences faces not just asking but demanding them to crowd surf and go wild. To their dismay the audience remained rather tame. Despite this the band pressed on making the most of their short set. This is definitely a band you need to see live to appreciate as their songs on MySpace don’t do them justice.

To conclude the night was VanShe Tech, which is made up of two members of Van She just DJing. Both Nicky and Michael used ever trick they had to mesmerize the crowd. They played a mixture of both new and old music that made the audience go absolutely nuts. Within minutes the stage was over ran by people just wanting to dance and have a good time.

Overall the night was a success. The people, the music and the atmosphere made WOW a brilliant night. Hopefully there will be many more to come.
