Felicity Ward - Ugly As AChild @ The Pod, Adelaide(11/03/09)
Wed 25th Mar, 2009 in Gig Reviews
You may have seen Felicity Ward as part of the short lived and much
missed Ronnie Johns Half Hour and this is her first solo Adelaide
Fringe Festival Show and it is a corker! Ugly as a Child is a very
funny look at her childhood in suburban Australia, where people have
hybrid names rather than hybrid cars. Aided with a simple set, some
school photographs and perfect timing, Ward’s confessional style is
self effacing, and often hilariously brutal (mostly in her own
direction). Tonight’s show had one unexpected side effect. When
Felicity was demonstrating her unmatched ability with the fake – œi’m
about to spew’ action, a lady in the audience came close to doing
the real thing. In-between laughing uncontrollably and looking away
from the stage, this poor woman turns out to be hyper susceptible to
regurgital suggestion (like seeing somebody yawn and then having to
yawn yourself). There are a couple of cool songs and the opportunity
for a member of the audience to deliver electric shocks to Ms Ward. A
terrific show and you should go and check it out.
