“Oh I dunno, just make us look good,” says lead singer, Justin Burford of Perth grown band End Of Fashion “We’re the best band in the world”. The band, now back from touring Australia and overseas spent Friday night introducing their new album Book of Lies and new bass player, Simon Fasolo, at Fremantle’s Fly By Night musicians club to a crowd filled with dedicated fans thrilled to have their band home.

In this warehouse setting with its funky style, a mix of generations came together to hear the End of Fashion sounds. Paving the way for them were support bands Kill Teen Angst and Streetlight. Kill Teen Angst rocked up in their jeans, trackies and t-shirts and played their high energy, heavy strumming sounds which let the crowd see their passion for music.

In contrast to the previous band’s casual fashion, Streetlight stepped out on stage in stylish stripes and suspenders. Playing the kind of music you could easily find yourself getting lost in, the pulsating drum beat and rhythmic guitars took the audience to an energetic, upbeat world of sound.

End of Fashion started off their set with a blend of favourites and displayed a clear difference in their level of experience and skill. The band revealed to the crowd that the not-for-profit Fly by Night had previously been their old rehearsal space. Indeed, the stage seemed to be a natural place for them to be and they flowed through their tracks effortlessly.

The new album Book of Lies has had two singles released so far; Fussy and Dying for you -which was co-written with Julian Hamilton from The Presets. Whilst introducing their new songs, the band also pleased the crowd with music from their first album but deemed the crowd “too quiet.” The mass of people only responded with cries of love for the band, who jokingly admitted the crowd probably just wasn’t “as drunk as we are”.

End of Fashion demonstrated their musical talent with amazing instrumentals before their – œfinal’ song of the night. Their encore called for a well-received audience participation movement and ended with an old and a new track showing their dedication to their older music and progression into deeper songs that deal with human personality and inner conflict. Their music reflects a journey they’ve had to take over the past few years, touring and taking time out to write. Their songs may consist of deep connotations but mixed with it’s uplifting yet melodic sound it doesn’t leave you feeling down but instead moved.

End of Fashion are remaining in Perth for now and will be joining Evermore on tour.
