Kate Miller-Heidke wowed the crowd at Mandurah’s Players Bar last night, proving again why she is one of Australia’s most original pop stars.

The night kicked off with Skipping Girl Vinegar, an up and coming band from Melbourne. Their cheerful front men set the mood for the night with their bobbing smiles and energetic voices. They turned out some upbeat hits to get the crowd going and even urged on a little crowd participation. Punters were asked to find their inner bogan during - œSift the Noise’ punching the air while singing – œba da da ba ba ba’. The band even rewarded one lucky crowd member for getting into the music with their debut cd and an audio bag. This is a band to keep an eye out for as they lead the nation in their post revolution, writing – œactual’ letters and using – œactual’ mail to communicate with their fans.

Once Kate Miller-Heidke was ready to begin the bar was well packed and ready to go. She kicked off the set with - œMotor Scooter’ revving the crowd up some more. After that came the poptastic tune - œI like You Better When you’re Not Around’ which showed off the bands choreography as they each moved their heads from left to right in time with each other, impressive indeed. Older songs such as - œMama’, - œRiver of Dreams’ and - œLittle Adam’ were all featured early on, much to the crowds pleasure.

Introducing - œPolitics in Space’ Miss Miller-Heidke pronounced that it was a song about wishing she could have lived through the 60’s and how the baby boomers that made up the 60’s generation, don’t care about us. During - œGod’s Gift to Women’ the talented singer popped on her teaching hat and began to conduct her band, faster slower higher and lower. Showing off just how talented the band is.

An eclectic cover of Johnny Farnham’s - œYou’re the Voice’ had everyone in the room singing along, but Miss Heidke’s creativity had them a little confused as she skipped the first chorus and ran straight into the second verse. That didn’t however deter the mood and the cover proved Miller-Heidke’s ability to adapt music with her talent for knowing what makes a good pop song. - œCan’t Shake It’ closed the set during which Miller-Heidke and her lovely back-up singer showed us some very cool moves, including the much loved sprinkler which the crowd went wild for. During the dance break down Miller-Heidke did become a little confused, showing us why she wrote – œcan’t shake it’ in the first place.

By the end of the show the crowd was left begging for more chanting “We want more, we want more” as soon as she left the stage. In true fashion Kate came back for her encore and straight into a song called - œAustralian Idol’, Insulting “Dicko, Marcia, and whatever you’re name is” in true style. Finishing with the old favourite - œSpace They Cannot Touch’ it’s easy to say that Mandurah adores Kate Miller-Heidke. She sang happy birthday to one lucky woman, came out for a signing session and told the Australian idol judges to “shove it up their ass”. Very cool indeed.
