Despite the nearing end of their Broader than Broadway tour, Sydney upbeat rock outfit Belles Will Ring didn’t disappoint last Saturday night at the Transit Bar.

Even though it was bucketing down for the best part of Saturday, punters were out in force, so much so that there were barely any seats to sit on or a patch of space to stand in.

Kicking off the musical defiance were Brisbane folk rock outfit Little Scout, who proved to be a suitable warm-up act while punters found their momentum and inhibition for the night. Main female vocalist Melissa Tickle possesses a unique voice that draws on other pop vocalists such as Sarah Blasko and Claire Bowditch. To compliment her vocals is her male counterpart Patrick Elliot who is almost identical to Melissa vocally although he brings his own rawness to the songs.

In their short tenure they have played alongside Yves Klein Blue, Dead Letter Chorus and the John Steel Singers and played recently at the Sydney leg of the Playground Weekender festival.

Unfortunately fellow warm up act Philadelphia Grand Jury pulled out at the last minute so festivities were running ahead of schedule.

Headline act Belles Will Ring were a hit from the word go with their modern day interpretation of 60s rock. They are a present day version of The Beatles, complete with the mop-top haircuts, with the added modern day technology in the form of synthesisers. They pulled the biggest crowd of the night as their continuous upbeat happiness in their songs was irresistible not to dance to and savour their pop rock charm.

Their stage presence grew bigger and better over the course of their set, especially during guitar solos and catchy choruses. Even though their music can be easily compared to The Beatles their music travels outside the realms of 60s pop rock. They had some songs that delved into folk and blues and roots and some songs were more upbeat than others.

They decided to end on a high and go out in style with quick paced 60s rock song that truly encompasses what Belles Will Ring are all about. Both guitarists Aidan Roberts and Liam Judson had a go at solos and the rest of the band each had their turn to jump around in style.

To keep the party going for those who weren’t ready to go home yet was local DJ Celebrity Sex Tape who will be playing at the upcoming Purple Sneakers.
