CSS @ The Prince of Wales,Melbourne (27/02/2009)
Thu 5th Mar, 2009 in Gig Reviews
CSS brought their synthpop party to Prince of Wales on Friday much to the delight of the ironically named – œindie’ youth, and put on a suitably enjoyable show. With brazilian flair and the intoxicating LoveFoxx’s wiley charms, it was an undeniably fun night that showed off why they are so renowned as a party act.
Opening with the brilliant Jager Yoga, a high intensity frenetic pace was immediately set and although donned in some kind of cross between a 70’s floral pattern jumpsuit and muumuu, leadsinger Lovefoxx looked as cute as ever. They then continued with Meeting Paris Hilton and the funky This Month, Day 10, both performed in a very cool laidback style without ever letting the energy slip. One of the highlights of the night was Off the Hook a French lounge-pop type track that again showed off LoveFoxx’s natural ability to captivate an audience. The rest of the band looked suitably indie however did not add too much to the overall feel of the show, more content to look like they are brooding than banging. The crowd favourite was the synth solid Music is My Hot Hot Sex, which translated extremely well live.
After the highly appropriate Alcohol an impromptu fashion show was setup onstage with the help of a few lucky punters. (For the record, the guy won). It was moments like these that helped promote the party atmosphere CSS strive to achieve, giving everyone a taste of that very Brazilian way of life. Saving the best for last, Air Painter and Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death from Above formed the encore and left the crowd with an insatiable thirst to continue the party wherever they would be allowed in. Despite some songs sounding too similar, the aforementioned Let’s Make Love.. really is fantastic and shows the band’s talent far beyond just another indie curiosity.
