After a sizable gap in Australian tours it was no surprise to see the punk faithful turn out in force to see one of punk rocks greats Propagandhi. To sell out a show on a Tuesday night in little old Adelaide proves that punk rock is far from dead in the city of churches and even more surprising was the age of the crowd, barely a teeny bopper in sight.

First up were the all chick punk outfit Miss Golly Gosh who, due to an early start played to a rather empty room. Or maybe it was that others had seen them before and decided to rock up well after they had finished, they were pretty amateur. I remember 1 song, Liar, I think it’s about lying on your application to get a support slot….

Next up were the much tighter and experienced Stolen Youth who, as usual, put on an amazing show. I must have seen them open about 20 punk shows and they get better and better each time. They have a great following in Adelaide and always get the crowd warmed up and ready to roll. I’ve heard these guys reference Propagandhi hundreds of times in their sets over the years, I reckon they would have been pretty amped to open for their heroes.

Then it was time for what the sell out crowd had waited a long time for. Propagandhi took the stage lead by Chris Hannah sporting an old school combination of long socks and Chucks. The vintage foursome flew straight into A Speculative Fiction which kicked the crowd into action. Any anger about the 11 year absence was quickly forgiven as the boys blistered though a fantastic set with absolute precision. These guys have been doing what they do for a very long time and it shows, I don’t think I’ve seen a tighter more flawless display of punk rock, they were absolutely smoking. Highlights of the set included Supporting Castle, Less Talk More Rock, Todays Empires, Tomorrows Ashes and Hallie Sallase and Up Your Ass which had the whole room screaming “fuck religion”! Before anyone had time to catch their breath they had played everything on their piece of paper and it was time for a short break, before returning to the stage to play a few more. The highlight of the encore was the pulling up of a couple of crowd members to sing Fuck The Border. The night was concluded with Purina Hall Of Fame and just like that, the night was over. Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait another 11 years to see Propagandhi play Adelaide again.
