If there was a shortage of baby sitters across Adelaide tonight it was because all the 80’s oz rock fans were at Norwood to see 80’s rock icon Jon Stevens.

Supporting him was Adelaide songstress Jayne-Anne Power whose incredible jazz voice was lost on a crowd who were only interested in the main act.

Jayne-Anne’s performance of mainly original material, that would have been perfect in a smoky jazz bar, was largely unappreciated with the crowd only really taking notice with the few cover songs she performed. This included Amy Winehouse’s Rehab, which was good but lacked the angst and pain of the original.

Jon Stevens eventually took to the stage for what was essentially a greatest hits set, which included all the favourites from Noiseworks like Reach Out and Touch Somebody, No Lies – where he slotted in a couple of verses from Kings Of Leon’s Sex on Fire, and Take Me Back. There was also a few covers which included The Doors Light My Fire, the title song from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, John Lennon’s Jealous Guy, and from his short stint at their front man INXS Never Tear Us Apart. He finished with a song about his Mum called RIP Millie which even included an ominous short black out and then finally Hot Chilli Woman.

However while most people focused on Jon there was also some action in the crowd with one group of lovely young classy women at the bar calling for the scull at the tops of their lungs and downing shots, while others seemed to be taking advantage of the babysitter at home with the kids and reigniting their relationships to the soundtrack of their courtship. Probably something the rest of the crowd didn’t need to witness but obviously important for them on the night.

Jon has obviously recovered from his recent heart surgery but clearly still taking it a little easier and remaining seated for much of the set but there where glimpses of the former rock god who commented that he was feeling like a teen idol with the number of women very clearly enjoying his presence from the front of the stage and the man does have some fine guns.

This was definitely a show for the fans.
