Once again Friday night’s treat REV was in full swinging force with their own renown formula of alternative/indie/industrial goodness to please all sorts of punters.

The selection of music chosen by the DJs was very broad and diverse as it didn’t just stick to the usual party songs but delved into obscure upbeat rock tracks that one would hear late at night on Triple J. But no-one seemed to be complaining as the punters on the dance floor were too busy dancing ludicrously and getting messy. So it was clearly evident that the summer party spirit/vibe inside everyone was on high rotation as almost every Bar 32 inhabitant was on their feet and in the thick of it tearing up first class dance floor.

There was also elite patches of Mooseheads and ICBM crowd across the bar as the night flew into the AM dormitory. This was interesting to see as it meant that they wanted a change from the commercial pop/R&B that those clubs play or that those clubs were deserted and deadly quiet. Might be a mix of the two but it’s fair to say that Bar 32 was on the top of everyone’s list last Friday night. There was even a moderate to lengthy line at the door at stages throughout the evening. Something almost unseen since REV’s 2nd Birthday or the last Gangbusters. This in January!

There was something there last Friday night for everyone to enjoy whether it be the diversity in the music, the punters, the fashion (all those Batman t-shirts!) or the layout of the joint but everyone was partying like New Year’s Eve.

The music became more industrial and electro from about 1 am onwards as DJ Coco dusted off a few old favs including Gorillaz’s 19-2000, and Regurgitator’s The Song Formerly Known As among others. Other artists featured throughout the night were MGMT, The Presets, MIA, The Grates, Faker and The Fratellis. The DJ upstairs mainly stuck to hip hop, dance and R&B artists such as Snoop Dog and Nas.

If last Friday night stands out as any evidence, it seems Bar 32 is going to have a busy summer. Wonder what they have in stall for Australia Day.
