Apparently Malignant Monster were down a guitarist, although you wouldn’t have noticed, as lead axe Jarrad Curley covered the absence of their new shredder perfectly. Western Front award winning frontman Cain Cressal summoned the inner demons from the crowd and had them thrashing violently. A full length from this band is well overdue.
Recently signing to Metal label Nuclear Blast has seen many changes for the headlining Tazmanian Metallers Psycroptic. Tours with the US Summer Slaughter lineups and through Europe are becoming their staple diet. This has done wonders for the band as they were in dire need of some attention and exposure on a larger level.
Quite a bit has changed musically, some of the technicality has been held back purposefully in parts, only to accentuate the amazing fret work of sole guitarist Joe Haley. One prime example is Horde Of Devolution from their recent disc (ob)servant The moshy riffs translated perfectly to the punters and then were knocked on their asses when the main tech riff kicked in.
Jason ‘pepo’ Peppiatt is a great frontman, mixing up his once monotonic vocal range with guttural lows and hardcore-esque yells. Drummer Dave Haley was amazing as always, accompanied with bassist Cam Grant, the pounding heart of this well oiled tour machine.
In short, Psycroptic put on an amazing show which was reflected by the turnout. Finally we can see the band is gaining some well deserved attention after being Australia’s best kept secret after all these years. Go see them ASAP.
