Local band The Amcats took to the stage, whilst an embarrassingly small crowd looked on. All in all there were no more than ten people in the room when the duo took to the stage, and as their performance progressed those numbers didn’t. The Amcats were happily oblivious to the lack of a crowd as they managed to still put on a noteworthy performance.

With lead vocalist/guitarist Shane and drummer Renee this band stands out amongst the multitude of local acts. They don’t rely on smoke or bubble machines; instead their stage performance is stripped back giving their show a more intimate feeling. All new bands are compared to other already established bands, to give potential fans a reference point. The group that The Amcats are constantly compared to are The White Stripes. Hopefully they will be able to overcome this and develop a look and sound that is their own.

The second local act for the night was The Pleasure of Books who’s music is refreshing and relaxing. The quartet have good onstage chemistry, however just like the band that proceeded them they too where faced with the dilemma of a non existent crowd. In parts the bands music was rather engaging however much of their material sounds the same which offcourse becomes monotonous.

Finally the headlining act Peabody took to the stage and thankfully by this point the crowd had grown. You still wouldn’t call it a – œfull house’ but at least the four piece wont leave feeling like complete failures. The tour was in an effort to promote their third album Prospero . Songs off the album would sound familiar, despite being a fan or not, as radio stations such as Triple J have been giving the boys plenty of support. Lead singer Bruno Brayovic has a Julian Casablancas voice and manner about him, which gives the impression that singing and being on stages comes effortlessly to Brayovic. Highlights of the night track wise were The Only Way I Know which has a definite punk edge to it that makes you want to pogo. Something To Someone was another stand out with its gradual built up of drums at the beginning.

Audience wise the night was a massive flop, but those who where in attendance where spoilt with brilliance and genius.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!
