Behind Crimson Eyes, Guns ForGlory, Afraid You'll Fall @Transit Bar, Canberra(12/11/08)

8pm rolled around and Transit Bar was already a buzz, full of local music lovers. An endless wait for the first band to start left the punters with only one option to sit back, relax and boose up.

After a seemingly endless break from Canberra shows Afraid You’ll Fall return to our local stage. Again living up to their electric live performance standards, they mixed it up with a variation of new and old songs, showcasing their songwriting abilities. Their blend of pop/punk rhythms, heavy bass lines, challenging guitar riffs and an enormous vocal range from singer David Wine drew more punters indoors for an intimate set. Concluding their set with a mandatory mention of their very last show at Woden Youth Centre on this Friday 14th November.

Hailing all the way from Sydney, Guns For Glory graced the stage with their take of emotional punk rock. Their sound resembling American bands such as My Chemical Romance and All Time Low is definitely what got the girls to put their drinks down and start dancing. The crowd couldn’t look away, intrigued by the enthusiastic dance moves of lead singer AJ Dyce, who may have easily been mistaken for a clown on pills. A small crowd of dedicated fans had gathered for the remainder of their set with song Let It Go being a highlight.

Exploding on to the stage with Shakedown, Behind Crimson Eyes demonstrated their talent and experience by proving that they needed no warm up. With more people packed in and the temperature raised a few degrees the atmosphere inside reached an all new high. Their new material welcomed with open arms, Addicted went off like an oldie as most of the crowd were singing along. The new songs showed more talent and more depth with less of Behind Crimson Eyes’ signature screaming that often in the past incorrectly labeled them as – œemo’. The small stage of Transit, normally home to DJs and acoustic artists was defeated by the band’s oh-so-interactive performance. A solid ring of fans joined the band dancing around on the floor. The change of pace due to a drum solo mid set while the rest of the band took a breather and returned went unnoticed by the excited crowd. A cover of Green Day’s Basket Case encouraged a sing along greater than any Transit Tuesday Karaoke night. Finishing the set with Bullets For Blood off their debut EP A Pavor Nocturnus was the perfect end to a perfect set.

With the room hotter than a sauna, the very happy, very sweaty crowd dispersed after a night of total satisfaction. The now much anticipated release of Behind Crimson Eyes new album early next year couldn’t seem further away.
