Hermitude, Horrorshow @Transit Bar, Canberra(29/10/08)
Sun 2nd Nov, 2008 in Gig Reviews
Even though it was a Wednesday night, everyone thought it was a Thursday or Friday night as Transit Bar was the busiest it had been since it was trashed by Bluejuice.
Cue Transit Bar’s gig line-up last Wednesday night, brought to life thanks to the Elefant Tracks. Punter were out early which was particularly noticeable when ordering a drink at the bar, trying to find a suitable sitting spot and most of all waiting in line outside! Even those attempting to play pool had no room, and no-one was in the mood to be hit with a kew or ball.
Local support act Wax Lyrical cancelled their show at the last minute for an unknown reason. Being a local act we’ll be sure to see them again in the not too distant future.
Therefore punters had no time to prepare for two of the year’s most successful hip-hop and electronica acts who have both released chart topping singles. The first of which to delight the stage were Sydney hip-hop act Horrorshow. You may have heard of them as they supported The Herd on their recent Summerland tour. Ah the beauty of being on the same label with a renown Aussie hip-hop band. You may have also heard their chart topping single, No Rides Left.
They possess the same energetic and charismatic performance style as their label mates and have become a popular favourite in the nation’s capital. Even though they may be young, it doesn’t mean they’re stupid. These guys have played their cards right and worked hard on the debut EP The Grey Space, managing to grab the attention of a leading Aussie hip hop label and have a recognisable artist as their tour manager. All before their 21st birthdays!
During the intermission a majority of the punters scooted across the merchandise desk near the bar to find a recognisable face, Horrorshow’s tour manager Urthboy. Not long had passed before another Elefant Tracks group were ready to grace the stage… headline act Hermitude
It had been a long time between visits for the Blue Mountains duo but as part of their Threadbare tour, in support of their new album Threads, they were determined not to disappoint. And they didn’t. Their songs got almost everyone to their feet dancing. It seemed that punters didn’t care if they couldn’t dance, shedding inhibitions and just having fun. Their set was versatile as they performed some DJ scratching unlike anything I’d seen before, utilised a keytar, and showcased their ability to remix thier own tracks.
Another great, free gig at Transit!
