CHECK OUT THE CRAZINESS HERE!

Following on chronologically from Gangbusters 1st birthday on Thursday night was REV’s 2nd birthday on Friday. In the spirit of birthdays, last Friday night at Bar 32 came with an astounding present… a DJ set from the wild boys of rock… The Vines. The boys were in town for their show at the ANU Bar, but felt compelled to show off their DJ tricks at Bar 32 afterwards.

Starting at the usual time of 9 pm, the party was only just getting started, as Pink would say, and there were a fair few enthused punters who shifted their dancing shoes into gear to the usual remixes of songs you would hear on a Triple J Hottest 100.

Although to the special guests the party came into full swing at around midnight when punters had predicted The Vines would show up. Due to this, for the first time since I can remember, there was a line outside which stretched down almost to the corner of Mooseheads! This was the case inside as well. There were cues for the toilets, at the bar, the couch space was cramped and there wasn’t much space to dance. However all these factors contributed to the sentimental vibe of REV’s birthday party because it proves that punters of all breeds (Alternative/Punk/Hip Hop/Indie) came together to celebrate their favourite disco party night.

Prior to The Vines DJ set REV regular Willius churned through everyone’s favourites including a well-constructed remix of The Presets My People.

When The Vines showed up at around 12:45 a majority of the punters recognised who they were and obviously wanted a picture or an autograph or a hug. Possibly all three! I kinda felt sorry for Craig as all the girls bombarded him as soon as he walked in.

Drummer Hamish Rosser and bassist Brad Herald began their DJ set at 1am with some easily recognisable old rock songs including Muse’s Knights of Cydonia, and The Ting Tings Great DJ and other songs of the like. Joining them at about 1:30 was Tom Spira from Hancock Basement who was a suitable addition to have to assist in the DJing duties. He was probably sharing the good news to The Vines that they were the Triple J Unearthed winners to play at Trackside this year! Be sure to check that out.

As you would have realised by now both upstairs and downstairs were at maximum capacity but differed in their atmospheres. Downstairs was the place where you danced the night away to MGMT, The Presets, Muse, Midnight Juggernauts and Regurgitator. Upstairs was the place to have a break from the party and revive on a few drinks and stretching out on the couch catching up with your buddies.

When things came to a close at 4am REV had officially turned two. Maybe at their 3rd birthday they may have Kevin Rudd as a guest!
