REV @ Bar 32, Canberra,(10/10/08)

Friday night at REV was more or less the same as it ever is, however it seemed like ladies night with the fairer sex far outnumbering the gents.
The place was quite sparsely populated until the clock neared midnight, when people slowly but steadily streamed through the Bar 32 door filling out the dance floor.

The DJs played the usual audio fare of indie/alt/dance/electro/dance rock that by the time Daft Punk was spun I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe I haven’t heard any MGMT yet.’ Then sure enough – the very next song was Electric Feel. All of the girls on the dance floor – each of them dressed more ‘indie’ than the next – went expectedly wild for the song.

Unexpectedly though was the notable absence of the standard Rage Against the Machine and Nine Inch Nails tracks, and with it, the boganish lads who tend to revel in such classics. Though there was one or two of the afore mentioned lads in attendance, one in particular who for some reason or another decided that with the warming weather he would slip his Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt off and display his pasty, tubby torso for all to enjoy.

No one seemed to mind – not for the first fifteen minutes or so anyway, when security came along and tried to assist him from the club. Whether it was his love of Gandhi’s form of non violent protest, or that he was simply smashed, but our shirtless friend went limp in the arms of security refusing to leave the premises. When his friends helped security to put his shirt back on, they all left together, and everyone else got on with an otherwise overall uneventful evening.

As always a delicious night at Bar 32!
