The HiFi Bar tonight has a powered, raw and heavy line up of top Melbourne bands to perform, all having at least one thought in common, their love of the band Full Scale. Tonight is about the release of the DVD Colour, Light, Movement, Sound! a documentary about the rise and fall of Full Scale, produced by David Krebelj. The scene is a full stage of equipment and fields of black tee’s, pretty dresses, tattoos and joined with an excited vibe as I enter the room. One can feel the punters wondering if Full Scale will play a few tunes at the end of the night.

Rincon unleash the night with a half hour set, the crowd becoming bigger after each song. Turning Around has full guitar riffs and J Bire’s vocals are on fire tonight. The song Evolution, brings the crowd to a quiet roar whilst Justify and Open Up Your Eyes gets the punters moving. Crush, a Full Scale cover, brings the crowd further to the front of the room, then lastly Under Me fulfils the crowd pleasing eyes tonight.

Engine Three Seven are an alternative progressive rock band. Tonight they start off with gusto. Singing on his knees, Casey Dean sings the Full Scale song Feel It whilst drums thrash and vocals harmonise during the chorus. Casey displays a strong, amazing voice and he entertains us with leg kicks; such a proud front man. Sublime guitar riffs from Jedi Wright eat through the sound, mixed with heavy drum from Shane Evans and rolling bass grooves from Aryn Appleberry. Susan on Sunday entertains the crowd and songs like Cops, Erasure and Have it All gets the punters groove rocking. The band is highly animated on stage, they have a sound similar to System of a Down, one which is quirky and unique. Their sound works so well with their animated high/low lyrics! The band is pumping tonight playing with gusto and fully getting into the vibe that they pick up from the ever present growing crowd. Nice guitar solo’s and even the tamborine gets a showing at one point. The set it topped off with the song Easy Graceful Desert. This band truly stands out tonight.

Sydonia are next up, hot off the press from the news they are touring with Slipknot at the end of this month. Two single drums are on stage for this band as well as the normal drum kit and my goodness; these extra drums make the band fulfil a wonderful sound. The band erupt into Adornment and with three drummers and Dana Roskvist singing and playing guitar, it gives off a heavy rare sound and the punters cannot help but stand and look at the band and watch in awe as half way into song, the extra drummers (*Adam Murray* and Sam Haycroft) turn around and play guitar instead. Full sound and a solid crowd as the band explodes into Oblivion then Elbow takes us on a new journey followed by Three Tongues which is another heavy song. This song has hair thrashing from the band members then Dana turns his vocals a little high which blends into the mix and combined with those extra drums, it gives the songs strength and power. A grinding bass creates some fab riffs throughout the music. The Full Scale cover 16 Today is acoustic and the punters bring their lighters out. Next we hear Life in a Cup which is groovy song with dark beats from Sam Bailey on drums blended with softer vocals from Dana. This song has great depth and smooth sound_C13_ has a heavy instrumental start then the band intertwines into the music. Rubber Bullet ends Sydonia’s set and the mosh goes off.

David Krebelj (producer of the Full Scale DVD), makes a brief but welcoming appearance on stage and thanks all bands who played tonight as well as Full Scale who are all in the audience and David also thanks the fans who have come out to support the music. Next up is some different music by musician Tim McMillan. Acoustic guitar and drums groove in the music with a slight country feel. With skilled guitar plucking Tim sings Master of Puppets and Goat Song which can be defined as crazy guitar playing, cabaret style music.

Rook start of their set in full force, playing to the audience and making sure the mosh keeps up to their music. Singer Forbes McKail displays passion in his voice and the song Desley intertwines with curly guitar riffs. It is a pleasure to watch the drummer Rod Crowe drill into the music. The mosh just keeps going tonight as Adam May joins in with bass riffs and Tyson Fish feels his groove on guitar. Drummer of Full Scale, Crutey, comes on stage and the room goes nuts. A clothed blow up doll steals the show for a moment, much to most people’s amusement. Last song Fiction is defined with more great live vocals and ends the set on a high from the crowd.

Zeke from Full Scale makes a brief appearance coming out with the acoustic guitar and sings a song he wrote about his time leaving Full Scale. He speaks kindly about his time in Full Scale which was flavoured with highs and lows.

Hinge is the final act for the night and they erupt with passion bringing forth a revived energy. Just As kicks off the procession sung by Glen Johnstone and follows with Fear Another Day which shows us just how moulded this band is when playing live. Guitarists Rob Crimi and Brock Collins pump out the riffs for the next alternative rock song This Time I Take the Wheel. Displayed in this song are great vocals, fast beats and electric riffs that make you want to get up and stage and rock your socks off (well…almost!). Guests Arrive Late takes on twisty riffs, bassist, Tomek Kurpiewski, likes to go off and he pumps his body to the music as he takes on this truly pulsating song. Next song played is Disco then Adore followed by Gypsy then Glen tells us the band have been together eleven years and never done a cover song – making tonight’s Full Scale cover Man in the Desert their first. Glen has a real growl in voice for this song and the boys from Full Scale are side of stage rocking to the music. The crowd erupts to Boy and then Glen reminds the crowd to support Aussie music as tonight’s bill is an all Aussie experience – the crowd punches the air in agreement. Last song is another cover – Full Scale’s Party Political and Zeke joins them on stage and sings in true Zeke style. The night is capped off beautifully with this song unleashing some moshing beasts.

Once Hinge leave, the crowd chant Full Scale with full hope that the boys would come out and it must have worked because Jimmy, Rob, Zeke and Crutey take to stage. They don’t really say much, take a few bows and show us their faces which are full of smiles. This seems enough for the crowd who cheers the band they love and a band they are here to support tonight. Full Scale may have disbanded three years ago and yet the line up for tonight is a sign their legacy remains and that the band is still is the punters hearts.
