Henry Wagons has an earthy, angelic, masculine singing voice that portrays a fresh passion for our great country. On stage with just his guitar, Wagons welcomed the audience with the lyrics “Brothers and sisters from Brisbane please stay…”

Freaky Jerry Springer Style – a ballad of an only child – was quite comical with an enjoyable western musical twang. Driving Along was extremely instrumental with a lot of nicely put together guitar riffs. Dave Graney entered stage right as the back up guitarist, they played Elvis then Trying To Get Home – an amusing story of his life told in a soulful tempo.

Although there was not a large audience the crowd were extremely receptive and in awe of the voice that swept us away to a land of the free Australia. Wagons was enjoyable, melodic with undertones of rock, his gentle character shone throughout the show and finished his set with a simple “Thank you Comrades.”

Firstly, Dave Graney explained that most of the songs from his new album We Wuz Curious are tales of himself. He continued to give a description of the incentive behind the lyrics for I Was A Country Boy “coming from the outside, country South Australia, to the city of Adelaide.”

I’m In The Future Now swung into the hearts and minds of the audience with the lyrics ‘I am free of all tales of tomorrow, I am in the future now’ – it is somewhat reminiscent of Timothy Leary. Listening to lyrical invocations of times gone by, revoiced and revived by youth yet wisdom is Dave Graney.

In fact Graney gave an interlude before each song to give the punters an understanding of where he was coming from, especially his dislike for private school kids who think they are better than anyone else. He covered the song Whiskey and Wine with feeling and meaning that only Graney can give.

The audience still remained small in numbers but there aim was to be mesmerised by this tale-telling-been-around-the-traps-musical-genius.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!
