Remember when Grafton Primary hit the nation’s capital last? They supported Faker because they did that remix of that over heard and over played This Heart Attack by Faker. But those who hadn’t heard of these guys probably fell in love with the original synth driven trio.

After that massive tour they returned to the studio to work on their debut album Eon which was released last Saturday September 13 with a clutch of new fans to add to bring to the table also.

As a part of their national ‘Eon’ tour Grafton Primary played a fantastic live set at the Sony Inthemix Top 50 party at Canberra’s ANU BAR. Playing alongside many of the best local and interstate dance acts, Grafton Primary’s set was definitely the bell of this ‘party’.

Grafton Primary’s live and stellar one hour performance went under way with a bang. Many punters seemed intrigued to hear the tunes from Eon which many had been unheard until the party.

Playing songs from the new album and previous EP such as the favourite I Can Cook, Change, Records For The Righteous, S.O.S Hello and many others. Songs were a mixture of fast paced full tempo electro and spacious and dark sending you out in musical space, take for example Relativity which is a combination of both.

It’s Josh’s lyrical sense that was sweet. Basically presenting lyrics in a form which showed full depth and uncheesy lines were no where to be seen. There were many hidden metaphors with multiple meanings which sprung throughout the songs. Many of the sentences combined with the music would paint an image in your head. Take for example Triple J favourite She Knows It which seems to question a woman of her choices in life.

Not only is there poetry in the lyrics but in the music as well. It seems Ben’s synths just speak to you also and to top it all off is the rhythm and power of Robbie’s beats. Combined, this trio is a delicious intake of euphoric bliss. Grafton Primary’s recorded music is brilliant and well crafted but it is seeing a band like Grafton Primary live which is like the icing on the cake.

They have such a mesmerising stage presence which seems to keep audiences hooked. Canberra looks forward to Grafton Primary’s return!

‘Eon’ is available now. Coming soon: Hear about FL Canberra’s dinner date with the Grafton boys.
