M.O.T.O, Cherry Marines, TheFighting League @ BAR 32(04/09/08)

GANGBUSTERS at Bar 32 is the new hype amongst indie kids all over town; it probably is why this popular event has gone weekly.
The first Gangbusters of September saw door prices reach an epic $10, rather than $5. Some may have thought prices had gone up due to inflation. But no! That was not the reason, prices will return to normal next week. It only meant that the night would be more spectacular than usual!
Last Thursday, doors opened to show off local acts Cherry Marines, Fighting League and US legends M.O.T.O. – who all together put on a kick ass performance. Kicking off the night was young band: The Fighting League.
At first they boys seemed a little nervous; twitching at the start. The boys seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the audience numbers but maintained themselves quite well. Eventually the boys got loose, and lead singer found himself without a shirt. The boys looked to friends in the audience who even helped them with some percussion. A great performance; make sure you catch them with Young & Restless at the Transit Bar on Friday 19 September.
Next on deck was Cherry Marines; with a performance to set sail. Their set was chilled and laid back. There is something about this band which isn’t out to sea. It’s so in your face in a peaceful sense. Perhaps it was their stage presence?
Finally after much a long wait ; M.O.T.O came out to play. At first they looked a bit dazzled. Then you could say that they literally – œkicked it’. The bar began to fill again; and girls and guys were dancing! (Which isn’t unusual for BAR 32 behaviour).
You may have noticed for a band from Chicago; that two of the band members had very strong Australian accents? Well you obviously don’t follow M.O.T.O. The only original M.O.T.O man was lead singer and guitarist Paul Caporino. Playing with “M.O.T.O Australia” is Ally Spazzy from The Spazzys on drums and bassist from experimental band The Ooga Boogas who wants to be known as Rigidstabber. Their music still sounded just as authentic as the recordings of the original band, maybe even better!
Their set list wasn’t very long but at the end of the night the audience wanted more. So it was songs like Magic Words which the audience heard three times. Dance, dance, dance is what everyone just kept doing!
Eventually at the end of the night – they had to finish and this gave Faster Louder the chance to chat with bassist Rigidstabber, he revealed, “We wanted to get M.O.T.O over here. And this was the best way to do.” He also mentioned that both Ally and him get to play alongside one of their favourite bands, saying “M.O.T.O has been going forever, going back to the 80’s even.”
Next Thursday @ Bar 32, be sure to catch: Cigars For The Man, Jonny Telefone & Babyfreeze.
