Shakedown @ Bar 32, Canberra,6/9/08
Mon 8th Sep, 2008 in Gig Reviews
It leaves some asking the question – œHow does Bar 32 attract the hottest indie folk in the ACT?’. Well its Shakedown of course! It was on again with a fabulous blend of music ranging from hardcore dance to glam rock.
It was another quiet kick off with a handful of patrons arriving for an early drink but typical of these young people, the room didn’t fill up until well past midnight. Honestly, what would their parents say? The Bar 32 regulars rolled in while a few unexpected guests masqueraded their way in with lavish masks concealing their identity as they shamelessly danced the night away. The floor was still sticky from Rev on Friday evening and the patrons made sure it stayed that way spilling precious drink all over the place and on my favourite boots!
As usual the bar staff were splendid and the DJ’s pumped out the kewlest tracks, including We Are Your Friends by Justice vs Simian and Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Prominent features for the evening were Presets, Salt N Pepa and Kanye West sending dance lovers into a dancing sing along frenzy. Shakedown lived up to its reputation of an indie dance night with a difference and this time it was served by the infectious Wearing My Rolex by Wiley and every girl’s favourite No Scrubs by TLC. Of course the DJ’s have their fingers on the musical pulse playing the freshest track around Ladyhawke’s Paris Is Burning.
Oh my and there is more but you’ll have to find out for yourself.
Shakedown is on every Saturday night at Bar 32. Stay tuned for some exciting news on upstairs soon as FasterLouder and Bar 32 collaborate to create more craziness!
