Local favourites Lowrider returned home to Adelaide rewarding fans at a sold out Governor Hindmarsh with a brilliant demonstration of their soul inspired hip hop.
But before hitting the stage DJ Reflux warmed up the crowd in the support slot moving from Jackson 5 to Jurassic 5 as well as current hip hop favourites Bliss n Eso, and Muph & Plutonic.
Finally after what was an extremely long wait considering there was no set up required, Lowrider frontman Joe Braithwaite told the adoring crowd just how good it was to be home before kicking off with Done With This and Living This Way both off the recently released album Diamond Amongst the Thieves. However, this show was not just about the new material with the band keen to showcase the best from both their albums with Riverside, Other Lovely Things and Try and See Red from the self titled first album smattered throughout the set.
Joe, along with brothers Paul and John Bartlett on drums and keyboard and Scott Duncan on bass have developed a distinctive sound that moves from hip hop to funk and soul and live they fuse together easily keeping the crowd, which also included at least one Hilltop Hood, dancing and singing along.
Mid set they moved across to side stage where they had set up their “island” for an acoustic interlude, which included Friend and We’ve Been and a story about the early days playing gigs and writing material in an empty Adelaide pub where they played to no-one. While there is no chance of Lowrider ever playing to an empty house again they did loose the crowd on the opposite side of the stage momentarily. Everyone was right back with them when they resumed centre stage though.
Joe then made the big announcement of the night when he revealed that they would be support for the upcoming Alicia Keys Australian tour, which comes after their last pop princess support of Christina Aguilera when she toured last year and adds to a growing list of achievements which also included performing with the Hilltop Hoods at the Big Day Out earlier in the year.
These guys play an unforgettable live show finishing their encore with the massive current single BeBad to a very appreciate crowd.
