With their blend of pop yet head-banger worthy music, the machines that are Kisschasy were in Adelaide on the weekend for one reason and one reason only. To rock.
When lead singer Darren Cordeux’ s sweet sounding voice is allowed to mingle with rockin’ guitars and drums you know you are in for a hell of a performance. Coming on stage in true rock star style with plenty of screaming fans (mainly female) Kisschasy needed no time to warm up as they immediately proceeded to put on an unforgettable show.
With virtually everyone at the concert knowing the lyrics to all songs and singing along, Cordeux had to fight to be heard. Sing-along favourites were definitely The Shake, Black Dress and This Bed. At several points the band abruptly stopped the music so the audience’s screams could fill the venue.
In other heavier songs such as Perfect Way To Meet and One Mistake the boys could barely contain themselves absolutely thrashing their instruments. Cordeux and Sean Thomas especially were giving it there all, with Darren only standing still long enough to spurt out his lyrics before returning to a rock fuelled frenzy.
With the lighting and smoke machines creating the right atmosphere Kisschasy got the crowd pumping even more by playing within hands reach of the crowd, Thomas at one point even perched himself on top of the amps wielding his guitar in an effort to get closer to the mass of people swirling around him.
In between various songs Cordeux would take the opportunity to converse with the crowd explaining what song was from which album and even confessing his love for the city of churches. Although he may only be a waif, and his face is hardly ever seen due to his shoulder length locks, Cordeux is every bit the rock star playing the audience like he does his guitar.
Since the release of their debut album United Paper People back in 2005 life has been pretty sweet for Kisschasy but despite their popularity the boys still remain humble and grateful, thanking their fans for their continued support.
If you failed to go to the Adelaide gig then you really have missed out on seeing one Australia ’s best live bands in action.
