The lead singer of Faker, Nathan Hudson, is one of those people who would probably annoy the hell out of you if you met him in any social setting with his ADHD like mannerisms, but on stage this sets the perfect atmosphere for a guaranteed memorable performance by a band which is completely hyped to give all and sundry a great show. Hudson jumps on the foldback speakers, on the main stack, runs around, ducks down, jumps up, plays a few songs on the guitar and still has time to sing lustily and breathilly throughout a great gig. The lighting was exemplary, the crowds vociferous and we were ready to be entertained, and it was truly brought on.

Kudos once again to the Gov for a fantastic mix, great light show and a great feeling about the place generally. The boys of Faker launched in to a repertoire of new and old and reminded us that they have so many catchy tunes that even though it has only been since 2005 that we really heard of them regularly, they can almost do a show of radio hits.

After hearing the Collie gig on JJJ, I was worried that Hudson would be flat all night at the Gov, but while the first song was a bit off key, he rose to the challenge and by the time we reached Hurricane, which incidentally brought the house down, it was done with the magnificence it truly deserves. Really the boys of Faker just did a fantastic job, Are You Magnetic, Voodoo Economics, Sleepwalking, The Familiar, it really just went on and on with the exuberance and professionalism of a band which is basking in well deserved adoration of appreciative crowds everywhere. The unbridled effusiveness last night was something which was a reciprocation of the enjoyment displayed by the entire band and built up by the sets of Grafton Primary and Violent Soho, both of whom dispatched short energetic sets which attracted aural attention from a crowd waiting for the Faker lads, a feat certainly worthy of acknowledgement.

A great night out for an all ages gig crowd, well handled by the security and door staff, if you did not enjoy yourself, you will never be happy.
