Adelaide music lovers had due reason to be reeling over the fact that we missed out on the V-Festival or even a scaled down Best Of The V-Festival similar to last year. Nevertheless, Adelaide scored Duran Duran and it was a show not to be forgotten in a hell of hurry.

It was quite unusual to see a major international act without a support but it meant more Duran Duran to go round. The turnout was solid with three or four thousand fans coming out on a Tuesday night. The steep ticket price may have turned some away after indulging in Festival Fringe, Clipsal 500 and all the other touring acts in recent months with credit cards being maxed out from ticket purchases.

Bang on eight thirty the lights dimmed and the anticipation was electrified. The last visit was back in 1983 and some of the ladies who saw them then and were seeing them now hadn’t lost their screaming voices. It was hard not to get excited when everyone stood up out of their seats to dance the night away. Personally, I don’t understand why there was a need for seats on the floor.

This was one of the best night outs I’ve had in quite some time and there would be few people who would have disagreed. Furthermore, there no disputing the fact about how good Duran Duran are after hearing all the hits one after another with the original line up of Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes taking the stage.

Their set kicked off with the first three songs from Red Carpet Massacre before an arousing reception for Hungry Like The Wolf after front man Simon Le Bon asked the crowd if they want to hear something they knew. From here it was like taking a walk back in time as they delved in to the back catalogue and from memory there wasn’t many big hits left out.

Hearing this like Planet Earth, The Reflex, A View To Kill and Ordinary World was just pure gold. The electro set lost me a little but having said that the lighting and effects was top shelf. Just when it was easy to think the show reached its pinnacle the band bought the show home in a blaze of glory with Rio, Ordinary World, White Lines and Sunrise all getting a great response from the crowd.

Duran Duran returned for an encore and there was only really one song left that they could have played and that was Girls On Film. Complete with band introductions this number spanned ten minutes before drawing to a close and the band making a dash to the airport to avoid the throng of waiting fans.
