KT Tunstall @ The EnmoreTheatre, Sydney (19/3/08)

With a blank mind, not knowing what to expect from the KT Tunstall show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, I was surprised when I walked in and saw a man in dreads with a guitar taking the stage. Her support act was not much to talk about, a little to hippie for my liking, but I do commend his cover of Massive Attack’s Tear Drop. But then again, it’s hard to go wrong with such a masterpiece of a song.
Soon after he left stage KT Tunstall and her band casually – yet with a little bounce – entered the stage. Cue crowd going wild. Admittedly for someone not knowing her whole discography, her set was catchy and engaging, keeping the audience on their toes. It was quite reminiscent of the oldie group The Bangles.
However it has to be said that if KT wanted to give up her day job as a singer she could easily fall back on and make a successful career as a stand-up comedian. Not to say her music wasn’t great, but the girl is funny. Sharing quirky stories between songs, her advice to Sydney was “keep love local, Sydney” before singing tear jerker On the Other Side of the World.
Keeping the mood light, she shared her surprise and pride in getting her first number one on the line-dancing charts for Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and of course pulling out the hit even I knew, Suddenly I See. Overall her performance went down well. A chilled-out night with lots of laughs.
