Blue King Brown heat up theGov!

The support act Tom Thumb “beat box extraordinaire” with help from fellow members of Tom Tom Club; Ben Walsh on drums and DJ Dizz1 on decks. Adelaide is lucky to have these guys in town for their show in the Garden of Unearthly Delights as part of the 2008 Adelaide Fringe Festival. It was obvious that most of the crowd did not know who Tom Thumb was but as soon as he started showcasing his breathtaking beat boxing skills every person in the capacity crowd was screaming and bouncing. Tom Thum’s beatboxing set included snippets of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, Addicted to Bass, and even the Dr. Who theme! It was a perfect warm-up for the good vibes, beats and talent to come next at the Gov.

Blue King Brown began their set with a jam where each member of the band came on stage separately to play a solo until Natalie got the crowd immediately screaming. The all-ages crowd was beaming-there was real love for the music from the band and audience. Extended versions of every song allowed every member of Blue King Brown a chance to have their own solo, which showed how this is not a band with an obvious one member who the crowds come to see-it is a family that beams talent, support for each other and recognition of each other’s skill and passion. The backup singers both had a chance to show their fantastic voices with Haley Cramer’s breathtaking ballad a show stoping moment.

Blue King Brown’s live sound has expanded with the addition of a horn section that lifted each song to another level of brilliance. All the favourite songs were played including “Come and Check Your Head” and “Water.” Front woman Natalie also explained that the band is currently in the process of recording their next release and gave a sneak preview of two unreleased songs to the crowd’s excitement.

Blue King Brown are one of those refreshing Australian acts that genuinely love every second on stage shown through beaming smiles and humour between members. Natalie expressed her band’s deep admiration for the government’s historic apology to the Stolen Generation and expressed how Generation Y has a strong passion for political, environmental and social change stating “you are not alone-together we can make a difference today.” The political band all wore green khakis and Natalie showed her support for the fight against Nuclear Power.

Do not miss the chance to see Blue King Brown live as their passion for music that not only soothes the soul but promotes change, is contagious!
