Age shall not weary them!
The Police reunion tour is one of the most hotly anticipated music events to hit our shores for 2008. The combined talent of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers proved that even with an extended hiatus that they still haven’t lost their knack to belt out a quality show.
Nepotism aside Fiction Plane were a top choice to warm the stage and get the stiffs in the first four rows a little fired up and excited about what was to come in a couple of hours time.
Fergie hit the stage next and if there was ever a time to make a dash for the bar now was the time. To include her on the bill was an unusual choice but given the poor tickets sales it seemed like a desperate attempt to put bums on seats. She did redefine terrible and there were plenty of examples of crimes against music. Her covers jam that include Paul McCartney’s Live And Let Live, Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog and The Rolling Stones Start Me Up were embarrassing and had me cringing in my seat. Awful was taken to another level when she covered Heart’s Barracuda.
With that aside the Black Eyed Peas melody was great and her posse of dancers impressed the masses with all their moves.
Adelaide fans were the real winners on this tour by being able to see this infamous band play in a superior venue (compared to AAMI Stadium anyway). Their sound was tight and everyone rose to the occasion right from first drop with Message In A Bottle. There were no surprises with the set list but it was great to hear all the hits for what could be the last time we’ll ever see The Police.
Fergie made another appearance by joining the band on Don’t Stand So Close To Me aided by an auto-cue (der!). Highlights and there were many include the likes of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, Can’t Stand Losing You, Roxanne and how could you forget the closer Every Breath You Take. This was an awesome concert experience and one I won’t forget for a quite some time.
