Regular visitors to our shores, Bouncing Souls, put on fantastic show and proved how their longevity has made them one of the best punk acts around.

The set started with the title track of the new album, ‘The Gold Song’, which was the perfect opener. Their sense of melody is something the Bouncing Souls strive on as nearly every song had the crowd moshing and punching the air.

‘Lean on Sheena’ was another awesome song off the new album, which the crowd sang with anthemic enthusiasm, considering that these new songs were the first time being were played in Australia. In faithful form, the crowd knew every word off by heart.

When the Bouncing Souls ripped out classics like ‘Hopeless Romantic’ the room erupted, emphasising the Bouncing Souls’ pioneer status in what the music industry no calls emo (albeit the make-up and the sad pitiful attitude).

The Bouncing Souls’ songs are about lost love, anger, drinking and partying hard. So on their new record, they even touched on a bit of politics with the song ‘Letter From Iraq’ which was written by a returned solider who became friends with the band.

One thing that didn’t go unnoticed was lead singer Greg Attonito’s attire consisting of an 80’s hot pink suit jacket and a tie with a keyboard print on it. Huey Lewis would have killed to have the fashion sense that Greg does!

The Bouncing Souls will hopefully return to our country again soon, hopefully to rip Melbourne a new one like they did tonight.
