Muse @ Adelaide EntertainmentCentre, Adelaide (14/11/2007)

The Muse live extravaganza has been and gone leaving a lasting impression. For fans that had a taste of the Adelaide gig will no doubt be thinking that it was gig of year. Apart from the Big Day Out it has been a long time between drinks to be able to see Muse in all their glory playing their own headline show (well September 2004 at Thebarton Theatre to be precise).

There was a collective buzz in the line up to get in and there was the feeling that tonight would something special. With the Australian tour being the final leg of the Black Holes and Revelations tour you’d hardly know it as there were no signs of tiredness or the excesses from extensive touring.

Right from first note the crowd knew what they would be getting after parting with a hundred sobs for a ticket. Take A Bow set the tone for what was to follow and Matt Bellamy had eight thousand screaming Adelaide fans like putty in his hands. It was hard not to get excited and there was the temptation for me to start screaming like a school girl.

Map Of The Problematique was up next and Bellamy continued to lap up the attention and work the crowd. The staging, lighting and extra visuals really enhanced the experience and whether you were down front or up back there was a good vantage point for all. For me, the jamming between songs was inspiring and enough to go a little weak at the knees.

The set list was a little predictable although fans will probably be arguing for some time to come about what songs they didn’t play or should have played. Crowd pleasers included Sunburn, Newborn and Time Is Running Out. The crowd found plenty more to cheer about when Starlight got an airing and Plug In Baby and Knights Of Cydonia in the encore. The spectacle was not complete without the unleashing of six massive balloons filled with confetti, which eventually burst. It was an awesome site to behold and would have made for some great photos.

I left the show with a huge smile from ear to ear and to those who didn’t go – well, you really did miss out. An honourable mention does go to New Zealand rockers The Checks who played their hearts out. They were impressive winning over some new fans to bump up the numbers for their next visit.
