Diesel, Asa Broomhall, Boi &Eskae @ The Globe, 17/11/2007

With a sizeable crowd packed into the bar area, with spillover in the performance area, tonight’s show promised to possess a great atmosphere. From the moment opening act Boi & Eskae stepped onto stage, the crowd, still gradually increasing in size as ticketholders trickled in from the street, the atmosphere stepped up a notch. Performing a solid set of rocking melodic pop, this duo set the mood for the acts to follow and surely surprised many in the crowd with their talent.

With local troubadour Asa Broomhall stepping into the spotlight, the audience was treated to another display of great solo blues-folk, much along the lines of John Butler. Asa’s well-crafted, heartfelt melodies proved that he has grown greatly as a musician, and now stands as one of Brisbane’s finest singer-songwriters. After close to three-quarters of an hour of performing, Asa left the stage to appreciative cheer from the crowd, who were now more than chomping at the bit to watch the headline act.

With over a decade of experience in the music industry, and a slew of hits, Mark Lizotte a.k.a. Diesel had attracted quite a number of dedicated fans to his gig tonight. Appearing to large amounts of applause, cheering and general noise, the man took the stage with his band to please those who had gathered to watch his prowess and superb talent. With his voice and guitarwork still as great as ever, Diesel delivered his set in amazing fashion, with hits Never Miss Your Water and Tip Of My Tongue going down very well with the excited crowd. Interacting with the audience within the slanted confines of the Globe, one of Australia’s truly great singers had the crowd mesmerised by his mix of folk, rock, blues and pop throughout the whole performance. Once the set had finished, the punters left very happy, having been in the presence of a true Australian music icon, and having a head full of catchy melodies which won’t be escaping their memories for some time.
