Operator Please, Van She, SoftTigers @ The Zoo, 7/11/2007

Sydney band Soft Tigers are the support act for a sold out Operator Please gig at the Zoo tonight. Whilst the band has their good moments, these moments are few and far between. A sloppy performance and little to no stage presence stops this set from being little more than background music.

Van She are next up on the triple bill and the crowd has grown sizeably at this point. They are an interesting band with a sound you can’t quite place – it’s a mix of alternative-electro-pop and it works. Their set is highly enjoyable and gives you a firm idea of what these guys are about.

Before too long the ARIA-winning Operator Please spill onto the stage. They open with Get What You Want, which would be more enjoyable had it not been played to death in a commercial. However tonight’s show is a sneak preview of the bands debut album Yes Yes Vindictive. If their set is any indication, the album is sure to be packed with the same over the top pop that we have come to know and love.

Highlights of the set include the ever so popular Just A Song About Ping-Pong and the slower Two For My Seconds. Special mention goes to Timmy who manages to look completely adorable whilst displaying a skill on the drums which rival many peers twice his age.

Operator Please play a short but highly enjoyable set and the only thing missing from this gig was an encore.
