Bright Red started the afternoon with a rockn set indeed! The small crowd were familiar with a few of their songs, my partner commenting he had heard them on FBI. Good to see them get some airplay. Hot chicks up front with hot guitar sounds and vocals that grab you and make you pay attention. An excellent band choice for a Saturday afternoon.

Our compere for the inaugural Ms Rock n Roll was Dave Jory. Funny bugger. Haven’t seen him before but he had the room laughing in no time. A warm welcome indeed.

Judges Alex Grant (Producer for Jet), Kathy McCabe (Daily Telegraph Music Reviewer) and Scott Dooley (JJJ Presenter) – were to choose 5 finalists from 10 contestants.

There were two parts to the comp – one based on looks (Dooley’s
words not mine!) the other on how “rock” they were.

Those who braved a rainy afternoon got all the booty skakin’ and entertainment they came for. This was to be a beauty pageant with a difference, and how it was. No pretty poses or speeches on saving world peace here. Tattoos, piercings, fishnets, splits and snarled, cheeky looks from the girls made this a fun afternoon.

The contestants asked me how I would start this review, suggesting a headline along the lines of – œSkanky Girls Shakin It”

Skanky? Not at all. Being themselves would be more accurate. Thanks to Jagermeister, the girls were very relaxed and out to have some fun. The five finalists were so honest with themselves, their – œcatwalk act’ and their answers to rock questions in part two of the comp, there was no denying their winning ways. Lulu, Maria, Christine, Nadine and Megan received rapturous applause and will battle it out in final.

To end the afternoon, Bigphallica were soon on stage. What can I say? They kicked their set off with Sweet Child Of Mine, and I couldn’t help but smile. The hair, the pants, that sound said it all. I missed Guns n Roses when they toured but these guys made me feel like I was there. I only stayed for one song, but when I left a few punters were rockin out to the music.

An excellent way to end the cheeky afternoon of babes and rock.
