Bluejuice, The Bloodpoets &The Transmitters @ The AlleyBar, Brisbane, 01/09/07

It was a bit of a late start at The Alley Bar tonight but it was worth the wait.

The Transmitters kick off the night. They are good, with strong vocals, but then they lack that special spark and over the course of the night, they became a bit repetitive. When compared to the bands that followed, they were easily forgettable, and will need to bolster their performances in the future.

Locals The Bloodpoets took time out from recording to heat up the stage for tonight’s interstate headliner’s Bluejuice. The best thing about bands who play gigs around the time that they record is that they’re super tight and sound amazing. The Bloodpoets were just that; they played a tight catchy set and had the crowd cheering for more, not to mention countless people asking for CDs after they finished. They’ve always been a band to watch.

Hiphop-funk sensations Bluejuice were absolutely insane! They had so much energy and stage presence, and got every single person in the crowd moving. It was such an intimate gig and a lot of fun. They played most of their new album Problems and a few oldies. At one stage Jake Stone was literally climbing the walls – he then crowdsurfed his way back to the stage. Every sound was spot on, it’s amazing how they manage to get so many words out and make it sound so clean and tight. They all had charisma especially keys player Jerry Craib who was quite the charmer, stealing the limelight to sing songs for the ladies in the front row, though his evil laugh during one song was unforgettable. There was no encore tonight, which was disappointing because nobody wanted it to end. However everyone left more than satisfied with this infectious performance.
