Rad young Melbourne rockers British India makd their first trek to Perth to launch their debut album Guillotine. On the back of some solid JJJ radio play and a feature album showing, they thrashed and crashed through an awesome set at Amplifier.

Opening the show were local indie punk act Kill Teen Angst, who played a reasonable set to a half-empty Amplifier floor. Despite the modest audience, KTA still powered through a high energy set that was well received by the early punters.

The second support act, WA rock veterans Red Jezebel came out firing with a solid tight set showing just why they have been around since the days they battled it out with Eskimo Joe and why they have better street cred than said band. While playing around the traps Red Jez have built up a solid fan base and by the time their set started, the floor was packed. Lead singer Paul Wood moved out onto the stage fully suited up and ready to acknowledge all the punters that showed up to see them and the band didn’t disappoint.

By the time British India walked onto the stage Amplifier had filled up, hardly a space on the floor left for latecomers. As they burst out onto the stage, you could see how young the members were. Vocalist Declan Melia is only 21. Oh and did I mention small he is pint sized? But that surely did not stop him from rocking out hard and within moments of them starting you know that once upon a time Melia had been a big big fan of The Hives.

From the opening moments the band took the crowd by storm with tracks Outside 109 and Frozen On the Inside to open. Long fringe and hoodie laden Melia had the crowd thrashing around midway through third song Automatic Pulse and bassist Will Drummond didn’t let the crowd do all the work jumping around stage like they really enjoyed playing to this crowd. Eventually, the band gave the crowd and most likely themselves a well-deserved rest, playing a few of their ‘slower’ songs Tie Up My Hands, _Frozen On the Inside_and Run the Red Light.

Soon enough, up went the tempo and so did the audience to high paced track and single Teenage Mother followed quickly by Edgy Looking Clothes. After leaving to flurry of applause or shouts, British India quickly returned jumping straight into Black and White Radio, the opening track from the album.
