For this week’s podcast we’re taking you on a musical journey through the artists on indie label Rogue Records with the tracks running the gamut from lilting pop to folk to blues rock and swamp rock. Washington DC rockers The Cassettes will deliver a brand new track. Wisocnsin folk hero, Justin Vernon serves up a newbie under his new moniker Bon Iver. By the Fireside
After serving up a couple of very successful EPs and working on recordings for a bunch of other artists, Daniel Lea aka By the Fireside has finally taken a break from producing to turn his hand to presenting a full length album of his own. Said album is a tasty little treat called the Great Hartford Fire and takes its inspiration from a real life circus fire that took place back in the 1940s at a Ringaling Brothers Circus. Many men women and children lost their lives on that day and Lea has produced an almost filmic album dealing with the catastrophic event.
Keep your peepers peeled for By the Fireside’s album, The Great Hartford fire -out Jan 26 through Inertia.

Five O’Clock Heroes
If you’re into 70s sounding power pop rock, you’ll soon get a taste for UK outfit Five O’Clock Heroes who wear their love for Brit pop and rock, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson firmly on their heart sleeves. Since coming into being in 2003 after a visit to New York, the four piece have earned a rep for infectious grooves. Check out this track, Head Games from their upcoming album – Bend to the Breaks which will be released by Inertia in February.

Bon Iver
If you’re a fan of Iron and Wine’s folky leanings you’ll no doubt get a kick outta this next track by Justin Vernon also known as Bon Iver. The folk at Pitchfork have already been raving about the Bon Iver album, For Emma, Forever Ago and we’ve got a taste of the soulful sounds you can expect to hear on the upcoming release. The Black Hollies
New Jersey aint just the home of Tony Soprano – it’s also been the stomping ground for many a rock n roll band over the years and the latest one to get our hips swaying to a beat is Rogue Records signing The Black Hollies, get ready for some stonkin’ blues infused rock as we bring you a track from their upcoming album….Listen up, this is Paisley Pattern Ground

The Cassettes
Washington DC seems like an unlikely town to be the birthplace of such a swaggering rock n roll outfit as The Cassettes and yet they’ve managed to put the sights of Capitol Hill behind them to deliver a killer album called neath the pale moon. Get ready to swing those hips to the tune of their first single, Lady Faire.

This week’s emerging artist is Melbourne fourpiece Sailors and Swine – we discovered them on our band pages and immediately fell for their bluesy blend of swamp rock. Check out this dirty track – The Devil’s Children. They’re one of our hot tips for G2V so keep your eyes out for their next live gig.
