On the eve of Carcass's Australian tour, FL was lucky to catch up with straight-talking vocalist Jeff Walker as they tour the USA.
Born in The Empire Moon Bar in November 2007, The Channelers
started their life as an experimental collective. Each member of
the trio has vastly different musical influences & backgrounds,
which imparts a certain creative freedom in their sound & direction.
A musical style described as “uniquely intense & melodic, though
at times powerfully caustic” The Channelers find a compromise
between dark pop, colourful funk & light metal .
Currently working on their first EP, The Channelers
continue to explore the melodic contrasts & lyrical imagery.
When playing live one of the main objectives (apart from entertaining the people who are emphatically staring at us) is to enter that state where all is clear and nitrous charged. This 'being' in combination with ideas which fluctuate from actual events to deceptive fabrication, moves through thick grey grass and winds through hollow trees to maladjust. The songs convey claustrophobic symbolic metaphors combined with such psychological elements as confusion, fear, apprehension, hallucination, anxiety and convoluted discourse coupled with such themes as pleasure, sadism and evocation.
