The inaugural Banskia Environmental Awards were held in Sydney last week and Falls Festival came up trumps with the People’s Choice Award – naming the fest as the Greenest Festival in Australia.

The Falls crew are chuffed with the award and wish to express their thanks to those of you that keenly support, and voted for, The Falls Festival to be named ‘The Greenest Festival In Australia’.

In a statement to the media Festival Director and all round good guy Simon Daly said:

” We are very humbled to be associated with The Banksia Environmental Foundation; a national not-for-profit organisation that promotes environmental excellence and sustainability.
We are very appreciative for the recognition of our tireless efforts in sustainability, and are thankful to see the environment as a priority in the public’s mind.

“There are many key players involved in ensuring The Falls Festival is as environmentally friendly as possible each year. Being recognised for such a prestigious award couldn’t have been achieved without these wonderful people: Mella Morgan and Buzz Thompson, Event Managers, Tas/Vic The enthusiastic staff and volunteers of ‘The Green Team’ that come on board each year and assist on site in clean-up, our patrons that help keep our pastures clean and green with their recycling efforts, Visy Recycling, Southern Waste Strategy Authority, Natural Event, The Barwon Regional Waste Management Group ( WASTEWISE ), AFGC (BIEC), Tasmanian Land and Sea Council, Department of Tourism, Arts and Environment, Tasmanian Conservation Trust, Greening Australia, Parks and Wildlife, Hobart Water, the Threatened Species Unit, Birds Australia…and the entire Falls Festival Team, whom all consider the environment our most precious resource, and who strive every day to keep the festival as green as possible. ”

This year to offset the environmental impact of the festival, Falls Fest will be planting a tree for every ticket sold.
