Wed 11th Jul, 2007 in Local News
It’s no surprise that Bob Dylan has personally requested the Irish outfit The Frames to tour Australasia with him this August. Renowned for their mesmerizing performances and melodious sound, The Frames will rock Sydney’s The Metro on Saturday August 14 and Melbourne’s The Forum on Monday August 20. Tickets go on sale Friday July 20 on Ticketek.com URL.
The born performers have received thousands of praising reviews including The Onion’s Stephen Thompson SXSW gig review: “The Frames put on one of the festival’s most mesmerizing performances. Led by charismatic singer Glen Hansard, the group was versatile to the point of contradiction: poetic yet playful, fearlessly melodramatic yet pleasantly good-natured.”
The rockers’ most recent album The Cost has received widespread acclaim with its trademark delicate folk melodies and killer guitar solos weaved into a creative flow. The Dublin Sunday Tribune raved, “It’s their best record to date,” while The Boston Globe commented, “The album is sophisticated and layered …yet, the band’s songwriting and delivery display an earnestness and lack of pretension that’s pure rock.”
The Frames are also currently celebrating the success of the film Once, starring The Frames frontman Glen Hansard and directed by one-time bass player John Carney. Once won the World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Raving reviews such as the Chicago Tribune film critic’s describe Once as “the best musical of a generation” while comparing it with the classic Talking Heads film Stop Making Sense. Additionally, the soundtrack written by Glen Hansard was short listed an award in the 4th Annual Film and Television Awards in Ireland, is currently top 10 on iTunes in the USA and will be released through Sony BMG in August in Australia.
Check out the flaming hot The Frames in Sydney and Melbourne this August. BBC Radio from the Witness Festival in Dublin Ireland raved The Frames were “The gig of the festival…if you’re bored of music, then go and see The Frames. They’ll work wonders.”
