Aussies around the country voted for The Artaxian Mantra, Astreetlightsong and Five Star Friday as the three finalist bands for round two of the Toohey’s Extra Dry uncharTED contest. Over 270,000 votes poured in, giving 570 unsigned and undiscovered bands a chance at stardom. One of the three finalist bands of round two will be chosen as the sole winner of round two on July 12th at Sydney’s Metro Theatre and broadcasted nationally on MTV Lair.

Victoria’s heavy hard rockers Airbourne and Perth drummer Malcolm Clark from The Sleepy Jackson will host the event along with MTV’s Darren McMullen. The Sleepy Jackson designed a Toohey’s Extra Dry beer can earlier this year and plans to pass the torch on to new, up-and-coming Aussie talent.

The round two finalist will then progress to the TED UncharTED Grand Final in October to compete with round one finalists, the Sydney outfit Acid Eyeliner, and the to be determined finalist of round three. Ultimately, after three uncharTED rounds are completed, one lucky band will be chosen to receive a Sony BMB Red record label, a spot on the 2008 Big Day Out tour and their own picture on Toohey’s Extra Dry beer cans.
