The online competition UncharTED is underway delivering an opportunity for rising, talented Aussie bands to achieve exposure and fame with the three winning bands gaining a spot on the 2008 Big Day Out tour and a record deal with Sony BMG Red Label, all to be announced on the second Uncharted Grand Final at MTV Lair on October 1st.

The UncharTED competition allows hopeful bands to upload music, photos, biographies and videos to UncharTED.com.au as public voters deliver their verdict on the band they believe is most talented. Voters are allowed five “for” votes and one “against” vote per day.

Sydney band Acid Eyeliner is the round one finalist, with online voters propelling the band to the UncharTED Grand Final on October 1st. The final will be filmed at MTV Lair in Sydney and broadcasted live nationally on MTV. There, Acid Eyeliner will meet and compete with the three highest-voted bands in each round. The bands will be judged that night by a highly qualified panel of music experts including Sahara-Herald Shepherd (Big Day Out, National Event Coordinator), Simon Cahill (Sony BMG Red Label, Senior Manager), Todd Wagstaff (Parker and Mr. French, Artist Manager) and Dave Sibley (MTV, Managing Director).

Voters have until June 30 to vote for round two finalists and round three opens July 1. Almost 800 bands are estimated to compete in round 3 that may drive the battle right up to the Grand Final October 1st.

The UncharTED band competition is allowing eager, talented bands to showcase their music to the world, giving them an incredible opportunity and a competitive challenge. It is evident that bands are putting tireless effort and time into wowing the public with their original songs, all in hopes of rising to stardom.

Sony BMG Red Label executive Simon Cahill explains “uncharTED is about discovering and unleashing real talented bands who can demonstrate they have what it takes by submitting their own originally written music to be judged by Sony BMG and the public at large. This initiative will give consumers the power to decide who and what music they want to be listening to on their ipod, on the stereo and in the radio of their car.”
