Ben Birchall and the Corrections have released their debut album Last Ditch Brigade via Cavalier Music and will launch it in Victoria this weekend and in July.
Since their 2004 Year of the Monkey EP and radio hit ‘Three Minute Revolution’, things appeared a little quiet on the Corrections front. But behind the scenes, Birchall was writing some of the best songs of his career and plenty of touring had transformed the Corrections from a loose studio project into a razor-sharp backing band.
So Birchall and his band mates checked into the studio where they recorded Last Ditch Brigade with Matt Maddock ( Dan Kelly , Something For Kate ). The album is a mix of spiky pop, mournful bar room ballads and sing-along choruses. Occasionally recalling Birchall’s heroes Elvis Costello , Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon , it’s the sound of a band having one last roll of the dice, and throwing a seven.
