Sixteen bands, four towns, one radio station… Triple J have answered the call to bring live music to the people. This month they launch their new incentive – Triple J Goes AWOL which sees Myf, Jay and the Doctor heading across country bringing gigs to the farthest outposts of Australia.

Joining them for the ride are some of Oz rocks biggest acts including Missy Higgins, Powderfinger, Grinspoon and the Cat Empire.

Each month for four months, triple j will head to a different corner of the nation with one of these artists plus three other bands in tow. They’ll will put on a massive concert in the town – for free – hosted by Myf, Jay & the Doctor, to be filmed by jtv and broadcast on triple j live around the nation.

Triple J Goes AWOL.
21 July 2007
Humpty Doo NT
(Pop. 10,000) Home to the world-famous ‘Boxing Croc’, Humpty Doo lies 47 kms south of Darwin on the highway to Kakadu. Heading north will be the wildly successful songstress and former Unearthed winner Missy Higgins; melancholic indie-rockers Something For Kate; and genre-hopping roots outfit Blue King Brown.

18 August 2007
Karratha WA
(Pop. 15,500) Karratha lies almost smack-bang between Perth and Broome on the West Australian coast (give or take a hundred kilometres!). The mining town will play host to the unstoppable Powderfinger; the infectiously hyperactive The Grates; and hip-hop innovators Muph & Plutonic.

8 September 2007
Innisfail QLD
(Pop. 8,000) Innisfail lays claim to the title of the wettest town in Australia (and it also copped the full brunt of Cyclone Larry last year). Hopefully the rain will hold off when triple j heads to Queensland’s North-East along with the ever-popular Grinspoon (another Unearthed winner); gutsy young blues artist Mia Dyson; and Sydney’s frenetic, fantastic Red Riders.

13 October 2007
Burnie TAS
(Pop 19,030) Located on Tasmania’s north coast, Burnie is the state’s fourth largest city and, being almost two hours’ drive from Launceston, is considered by Tasmanians to be relatively remote (though we think the people of Karratha would have something to say about that!). Making the trek down south will be hugely entertaining six-piece THE CAT EMPIRE; synth-poppers CUT COPY and the uncompromising, heavy-hitting HORSELL COMMON.

…plus of course the triplejunearthed.com winner in each region.
