Little Lovers & Nova Scotia @Rics - 25/05/07
Wed 30th May, 2007 in Local News
It was a cold, wet night in Brisbane – but there was a ray of light from Brunswick mall that helped to warm up the Rics’ faithful. With the upstairs section all but empty, a decent-sized crowd had already congregated into the small confines of Rics’ downstairs bar area to watch up-and-coming local five-piece Nova Scotia. Playing songs off their recently released debut EP, the band’s synth-infused rock was quite catchy and had this reviewer tapping his feet and doing a jig, and one was not alone in doing this. All throughout the set, the band managed to keep up the tempo and help the crowd forget the miserable conditions outside. They ended their set to generous applause and headed off stage, leaving fans waiting until their next gig at the Alley Bar.
Once the DJ intermission set had come and gone, local heroes Little Lovers jumped into their always energetic set to a nicely crowded bar. With numerous fans gathered up the front of the stage, from start to finish, the pop-rock trio delighted the crowd with their beautifully-crafted tunes, with standouts Havin’ A Party and Red Devil whipping the crowd into a frenzy not usually seen at Rics. Wintah, Ben and Dan definitely upheld their reputation as one of Brisbane’s finest acts with this performance, and will undoubtedly continue to do so when they support Cold War Kids on their Brisbane leg of the tour at the beginning of June. Long live Little Lovers!
