Jed Whitey and Tucker B’s will make a spectacular homecoming this weekend when they celebrate Black Friday with Melbourne buzz band Eddy Current Suppression Ring at Club Capitol and Amplifier Bar.
The two-room extravaganza will pit the likable expats against some of Perth’s favourite live acts, including The Wednesday Society, Sex Panther, Extortion and experimental outfit Cease. Also joining the party are The Travellys and Jaws, who will split up after the gig.
Tucker B’s relocated to Sydney in 2005 ahead of the release of debut album Chubby. They’ve recently been working on album number two, which is tentatively titled Tenderness, Kindness: Gimme Dat Ding and is said to be influenced by “other people’s pets”.
Jed Whitey, who now base themselves in Melbourne, have to take the gong for Most Politically Incorrect Band Ever. Their current single is called Hooked On Spastics and comes from the long awaited Sex Impediment album. With tact like that, it wouldn’t matter if Jed Whitey weren’t any good. But to ice the politically incorrect cake, Jed Whitey are, in fact, very, very good. They’ll be back on their old stomping ground to prove their no-holds-barred rock show still can’t be beat.
Completing the trifecta are Eddy Current Suppression Ring, who are still riding on the buzz they created on the East Coast with their self-titled debut album late last year.
If you’re quick, there’s still time to get hold of presale tickets ($18 from Mill’s, 78’s and Planet), which gets you a copy of a split LP featuring five live tracks each from the three bands.
