Babes in Toyland’s lead singer Kat Bjelland has signed with new local indie label, Rish Records, run by none other than our fave Shock promo guy, Brian Macdonald. Bjelland has promised a full length album release for this year but first up we have a spanking new EP Heart-On by her new outfit Katastrophe Wife The EP includes a cover of an Iron Maiden classic Run to the Hills which features Bjelland scratching on decks (if you can believe it!).
Bjelland’s history as a muso spans back over 20+ years; including the short- lived Sugar Babylon which she formed with Hole’s Courtney Love and L7’s Jennifer Finch and 90s seminal all-girl punk trio Babes In Toyland.
According to Bjelland she is “excited to be releasing my music on Australian label RiSH Records mainly because the guy who owns it and runs it is a down to earth, decent person who makes promises materialize and does what he says he’s going to do. Imagine that? An archaic concept that is in desperate need of revival.”
Heart-On is released on Saturday 14 April on 7” blue vinyl, limited edition embossed Digi-pack and digitally via iTunes. The CD includes remixes of the title track from underground Sydney DJ Mailer Daemon (Red Riders) and Timebandit (aka The Church’s Tim Powles).
Katastrophe’s Wife will release their new CD, Pregnant, in August
